Plan limits + upgrading

BopSuite has three paid tiers + a free trial. Here's the actual feature breakdown so you know what's available to you and what's behind which tier.

Pricing

Tier Price Team size Annual saver
Trial Free for 14 days 1 user
Starter $29 / user / month 1 user $278 / yr (save 20%)
Practice $59 / user / month 3 users $566 / yr
Firm $89 / user / month 10 users $854 / yr

Trial mirrors Starter limits. When the 14 days are up, the org needs to upgrade or it's locked out of trial-only features (the trial-expired gate appears in the dashboard).

How the trial works

Sign up → 14-day trial automatically activates → all Starter features available.

You'll see a banner at the top of the dashboard counting down. After day 14:

  • Read access stays — you can see your data
  • Write access is gated — sending new doc requests, creating new matters, etc. is blocked until you pay
  • Existing data is preserved — upgrade and everything's there

You won't get auto-charged. We don't take a credit card up front; you only pay when you intentionally upgrade.

Upgrading

Settings → Billing → click the tier you want.

Stripe Checkout opens with the selected tier and price. Use any card; the payment lands in BopSuite's Stripe account (we're the merchant of record on platform subscriptions, not your firm).

Within ~5 seconds of completing checkout, your org's plan flips. The Stripe webhook fires server-side and the new feature flags activate immediately — you don't need to log out and back in.

If the plan flip doesn't happen within 30 seconds:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Check your inbox for a Stripe receipt
  3. If still wrong, email us with the receipt and we'll fix manually

Downgrading

Same place — Settings → Billing → switch tier. The downgrade takes effect at the end of the current billing period (no proration of unused time on the way down).

If you downgrade from Firm → Practice, you'll lose access to features that require the higher tier (AI briefings, full reporting, white-label, etc.) at the period rollover. Your data stays — the briefings and reports are gone but matters/clients/etc. remain.

When does each tier make sense?

Stay on Starter when:

  • Solo practitioner
  • 1-5 matters at any time
  • Email + Word docs work for non-doc tasks
  • You're just trying out the doc-collection module

Upgrade to Practice when:

  • You're billing clients (need invoicing)
  • Engagement letters need e-sign (no more printing/scanning)
  • You're using a Calendly + intake-form combo and want to consolidate
  • Your firm wants its own logo on every email/portal page

Upgrade to Firm when:

  • You have 4+ team members
  • You want AI to brief you before client meetings
  • You need full reporting (firm-wide hours, revenue, completion rates)
  • You're white-labeling for a parent firm or franchise

Annual vs. monthly

Annual is 20% cheaper if you pay up front. Switch from Settings → Billing → toggle.

If you're 90% sure you'll use BopSuite for at least a year, the annual save is meaningful — at Firm tier it's $214/year saved. If you're testing, monthly is fine; you can switch when you're ready.

How the trial extension works

If you reach the 14-day limit and need more time:

  1. Email hello@bopsuite.com explaining the situation
  2. We can extend by 14, 30, 60, or 90 days from the admin panel (audit-logged)
  3. Tell us why — "evaluating with our partner before committing" is fine

We're not stingy about trial extensions; we're stingy about people abusing them by signing up multiple test accounts.
